Joinda's Journey
Joinda Production is a non-profit video production entity that was founded in 2017 in the Moria refugee camp. The harsh situation inside the camp drove Joinda Production to create videos that show the world the situation of the camp and raise awareness about the challenges faced by refugees.
In early 2016, the Joinda family faced a difficult decision. Their involvement in political and media work in Kabul, Afghanistan, had put them in a dangerous position due to the overall situation in the country. Threats to their safety forced them to make a choice: – leaving their homeland.
Like many Afghan families, they became refugees, compelled to seek safety and human rights elsewhere. However, the family was separated, with the three sons of the family deciding to embark on a journey to Europe. It was the summer of 2016, and their journey was arduous and filled with uncertainty.
Their destination was the Greek island of Lesvos, known for its complex refugee situation, particularly in the Moria camp. When they arrived, shock awaited them. The camp was surrounded by barbed wire and military presence. It became apparent that they were not alone; many people had been stuck on the island for months, waiting for their asylum processes to be processed.
For the Joinda family, this was just the beginning of their journey into the unknown. Their pursuit of safety and human rights was marked by challenges and uncertainties. They were a family defined by resilience and determination, navigating a path toward a better future amidst adversity. Currently, the family is scattered across three countries spanning two continents, facing difficulties in reuniting.
